Plume simulation

NOAA's Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory is currently developing models that will rely on recent and real-time physical, chemical, and biological data to predict location and movement of pathogen concentrations in the water and along beaches in nearshore regions. Plume simulations, such as the one shown in the figure, will eventually allow beach managers to predict potential for beach contamination, make timely decisions on beach closings, and ensure health and safety of recreational water users.
