Data from the dropwindsondes are transmitted back to the aircraft. Through rigorous quality-control measures on board the aircraft, the information is prepared for transmission to the National Hurricane Center and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction. New and improved instruments contain global positioning system technology, providing greater accuracy and reliability.
