A Geodimeter, an electronic distance measuring instrument, revolutionized distance measurements and was the distance measuring device used in the TCT. The instrument, while centered above a survey mark, determines distance by transmitting a light signal to a reflector above a survey mark at a distance, receiving the reflected light signal, and comparing the transmitted and reflected signals.
