NOAA began developing the next generation ATLAS mooring (shown here) in 1994 and deployed the first one in 1996. Between 1984 and 2001 NOAA deployed over 500 first generation moorings with a lifetime design of one year.
With the NOAA 200th Celebration coming to a close at the end of 2007, maintenance of this Web site ceased. Updates to the site are no longer being made.
